New Ventra App Allows Riders To Pay CTA And Metra Fares From Their Phones

Ventra just announced their brand new app will be available Thursday, November 19!

This means you won’t have to stand in line at the CTA station to buy a ticket or add value to one.

That also means we probably won’t hear as many ding dings from those machines, which I find oddly soothing.

Also, Metra will be on this system as well. Yes, you’ll soon be able to use your phone as a Metra ticket, marking Metra’s biggest shift toward paperless tickets.

The app, which will be available on iOS and Android, will allow transit riders to use their phone to pay for rides on all of Chicago’s transit systems using credit or debit cards. The app will also let you check account balances, set up notifications and receive travel and service information.

According to CBS Chicago, Ventra has been testing the app since July, ensuring it would work perfectly upon release. Eventually, you’ll be able to pay your CTA fare by simply touching your phone to the train turnstyle, but that feature won’t quite be available upon release.

You’ll be able to find the app at VentraChicago.com.
